Readme for AS Profiler Tool
Through this tool we can manually collect Traces using preconfigured templates as well as we can Schedule a Trace.
How to Schedule a trace:
This tool will enable Scheduling of SQL AS Tracing using predefined Profiler Templates. For tracking different issues there are different templates.
Scenario
If you want to collect traces for an issue which occurs during weekend or night time when nobody is available in office to manually Start / Stop Traces in that instance this utility will be helpful.

Profiler Templates:
Depending on your need you can edit the templates.
How to Edit Template, import existing templates from Trace Scheduler Directory in Profiler trace edit template and then export it back to Trace Scheduler Directory ensure that name of template files should remain same.

There are four Existing Templates named as:
- Connectivity (Connectivity.tdf)
For collecting traces in Connectivity Issues by default selected following events
Error and Warnings
Security Audit
Session Events

- Processing Performance (ProcessingPerf.tdf)
For collecting traces in Processing Issues by default selected following events
Command Events
Error and Warnings
Progress Reports
Query Events
Session Events

- Query Performance (QueryPerf.tdf)
For collecting traces in MDX query Performance Issue
Command Events
Error and Warnings
Locks
Notification Events
Progress Reports
Query Events
Query Processing
Session Events

- Custom (Custom.tdf)
With all Events

Prerequisites
Before you run this sample, make sure that the following software is installed:
• Microsoft SQL Server 2005 / 2008 database engine (For Future Release)
• Microsoft SQL Server 2005 / 2008 Analysis Services (SSAS)
• Microsoft SQL Server 2005 / 2008 workstation tools including SQL Server Profiler.
• .Net Framework SDK 3.5 or Microsoft Visual Studio 2008



Running the Sample
How to manually collect Traces using preconfigured templates

• Download AS Profiler Tool folder in a drive where you have ample space.
• Run ASProfilertool.exe
• Type in the AS Server Name against which you want to run Trace and click on Connect.
• Once Connected, Select Manual Profiler
• Select Required Template
• By default Trace File Name is tracefile.trc but you can rename it
• Click on Start
• Trace file will be generated in a folder where ASProfilertool.exe is located.
• You will find Trace file will be created with current data and its size will increase
How to Schedule Profiler Tracing

• Download AS Profiler Tool folder in a drive where you have ample space.
• Run ASProfilertool.exe
• Type in the AS Server Name against which you want to run Trace and click on Connect.
• Once Connected, Select Profiler Scheduler
• Select Required Template
• By default Trace File Name is tracefile.trc but you can rename it
• Schedule Trace timings
• Click Schedule Trace.
• Trace file will be generated in a folder where ASProfilertool.exe is located.
• You will find Trace file will be created with current data and its size will increase
